Their definition of us being out of the recession is that we did NOT fall into a depression.

The stimulus package did what it was designed to do, which was avoid a depression ? which is where we were headed,? Karp said. ?Several years ago, there was no assurance that the largest banks were not going to fail. People were worried about who was going to be next. Wachovia and Lehman Brothers went down and people thought that Citibank might follow. The main objective of the stimulus and the new economic policies was to avoid a depression, increase business and consumer confidence and stabilize the economy so that the private sector can take over the recovery.?

nathaniel karp said it himself, the ONLY thing that the stimulus package was designed to do was stop a depression. we arent on that path now (thank goodness) but this economy is still struggling mightily and is still on the fence of recession. itll be a long time before we are truly out of it.

you like economics? look up anything by mike reppert, he is probably one of the best and he thinks we are ****ed, ill take him over a panel of obama nut riders any day.
Group of experts? It's just GDP growth, which anyone can see, has been on the rise for a year...that's what a recession is about, GDP growth, when it grows the recession has ended. 2 down quarters of GDP or 1.5% growth in unemployment isn't happening, unemployment hasn't been rising(definitely not on that level) and there has been GDP growth for awhile now. It's not some "panel of obama nut riders", really don't have a clue where you got that, it's just actually what happened. I don't think you know what a recession is, it's over, the effects from it we are still feeling...but it's over.

Who the **** are Nathaniel Karp and Mike Reppert? Never heard either in my life, just looked them both up and nothing really showed up, so these aren't any big time economists. So I wouldn't be quoting and saying they are some of the best when they're nobodies.

No we're not. We're still feeling the effects from the recession, but aren't in one. Jobs lag behind after a recession, especially one as bad as this past one. I don't really get what you're saying, we're not in a recession, and working fast is what a stimulus is designed to do. GDP growth is up, employment leveled off and is slowly coming down, 9 straight months of private sector growth says so.

Lol still repeating that? You do realize why support for the bill went down, right? The public option was stripped out by republicans, guess you missed the thread with the polls that said the people thought it didn't go far enough - not that they didn't want a HC bill. Nice try.

And no genius, we're not talking about the small portion of Bush's 01/03 cuts that were for the middle class(the majority being for the rich). I'm talking about the 1/3 of the stimulus that were tax breaks for the middle class, that gave a break to almost all of working Americans. Try again.

Again, this isn't someone saying "well it's over", there's criteria for a recession...we're not close to it. As the private sector continues to grow, consumer confidence goes up, that's happening right now.

I never said why it wasn't popular... did I ? I just said it was unpopular

And you're saying the stimulus worked now? I not implying you're I'm asking .

    Re: George Obama?

Well, if the VA has been fully funded, then why am I still having to pay for my meds? It is not fully funded, it may be as far as you or Obama say, but it isn't. They are closing down, or not funding services just like they always have. When the VA first started seeing me, I didn't have to pay for prescriptions and that was at the 10% level. Now, at the 100% service connected rate, I pay 8 bucks per prescription. They used to pay me travel pay, now they don't. If admitted to a VA hospital, or to a hospital where VA utilizes facilities, I have to pay for meals and meds. That gets expensive. No, they haven't fully funded the VA. Go to the VA clinic in Norton and ask a veteran if the VA is fully funded.

TOKYO (AFP) – The dollar hit a new 15-and-a-half-year low of 80.21 yen in Wellington on Monday, edging closer to its all-time low below the 80 yen line hit in April 1995, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

The dollar's slide came amid speculation that the US Federal Reserve may soon take additional monetary easing measures this week, after the greenback declined against the yen Friday in New York.

In early morning Monday trade in Asia, the dollar was changing hands at 80.30-35 yen.

The dollar's fresh 15-and-a-half-year low came even after Japan's central bank on Thursday lowered its forecast for the nation's growth and warned that a strong yen was slowing the fragile recovery from recession.

A modest rise in US economic output issued Friday bolstered expectations of a new government stimulus.

The US central bank's policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee was expected to announce at the conclusion of a meeting on Wednesday a decision to renew asset purchasing policies in a bid to boost the economy, in what is known as quantitative easing.

The anticipation of a fresh stimulus has taken a heavy toll on the dollar in recent weeks.
